Fat Princess - Open Letter To The Offended

You may have heard by now that Fat Princes has rocked the gaming world by daring to put a fat person into a game. Not just into the game mind you, but as a target that people want to chase. This has apparently made some people mad. Feminists have denounced the game as offensive and “Fat hating”. Here’s what I don’t get, the target is to save the “fat person” and to keep them fed. I could understand if it was setup like smear the queer and you’re objective was to maim the fatty in any way possible.
The feminine stereotype issue? What that a woman is a princess? Would you like the ability to change the model into a fat friar and reinforce the Robin hood stereotype that men of the cloak are over indulging fat men? Would people even be complaining if it were a man? Unfortunately, I think not.
One blogger wrote: “I can’t figure out is why anyone would want to rescue a fat princess in the first place, since everyone knows that fat girls are unlovable human garbage at whom any sensible bloke would sooner hurl invective than cast a longing glance”. Well then how is it a fat hating game? There are no skinny Paris Hilton type models running around that gain you double points. You save the fat princess, not the Skinny Rail Princess. It seems to me that this particular writer has some own issues in assuming right off the bat that everyone believes that (again I quote) “fat girls are unlovable human garbage at whom any sensible bloke would sooner hurl invective than cast a longing glance”. This game doesn’t suggest that in the slightest. The following quote, I will concede the point on.
“I sure hope there’s a clever dénouement like the Fat Princess magically becoming thin once she’s rescued! ‘Cuz that would rock, yo!”
Now is this were to happen, then yes, I would have to agree that it’s offensive. We dont’ know if it will happen (and I can’t say it isn’t likely to). Until then though, everyone just needs to see the game as what it really appears to be. A Battle Royale style capture the flag game in which your target happens to be a fat princess.
What are your thoughts? Drop em in comments.

I dont care who is fat and who isnt, I just want to play the game, it looks like a lot of fun.
Gahd. Sometimes, i hate people
Really. I do.
I hate these Super-Politically-Correct Psychos. This is exactly like the whole Resident Evil 5 debate. This game isn’t offensive to woman by including a fat princess. Her being in the game isn’t an offense in and of itself so why are people mad? YOU PROTECT HER.
Its like saying any game in which the woman was the antagonist is an anti-woman statement.
The outrage and outcry does not go far enough.
Personally, I was highly offended and disgusted by the portrayal of overweight halflings in the first level of Overlord. The image of this disgusting, flatulating, grumbling “boss” was a true slap in the face to those of us who have left archaic notions of heteroverticality behind us.
And what of those of us who have embraced our brothers and sisters suffering the ravages of zombification? How many more times must we see the stereotypes of our zombie brethren reinforced, and the murderous hatred propagated?? Can’t we all just get along… for some brains?
I don’t see how anyone can be offended. The aim of the game is to save a princess, which can only be a good thing. I Personally am looking forward to this title.
I put this case simalar to the one with Resi evil 5 i.e with most the zombies being black and you controlling a white character. (however most seemed to forget the fact that your in Africa). Still the only people who had issues with it were the people who had issues themselves.
The “feministgamers” site’s other failure is to recognize that the princess was made fat by the enemy in an attempt to make her more difficult to rescue (because she’d be heavier to carry). In fact, the defending team has to continuously stuff the princess with cake so that she stays as fat as possible. It’s part of the gameplay, and not just some imagery cooked up for a PR stunt.
The title of the game, the premise of the game and the gameplay all tie in together magically.
I think we all know who the real loser is from this (non) controversy.
I Think She Just Wants Pity From Other People Because She Doesn’t Already Pity Herself Enough To Maybe Lose A Few Pounds…
Totally agree. It seems that in this day and age our cultural sensitivity has risen to almost atmospheric heights. People need to chill the fuck out and not act like 5 year olds at any perceived “slights.” Slights which are nothing more than mild-mannered attempts at satirical humor. Learn to laugh, believe me the world would be a better place as a result.
BULGING FAT ANUS!
get a life fag
Apart from your argument, your grammar is horrible! I could barely read and understand this blog.
I think the idea of this game is GREAT! I totally love the idea, people need to quit getting so defensive over it. I mean come on guys, its just a game. Grow Up.
oh yeah, and funny pic by the way, did you notice that lady has a lazy eye?
would they plz shut the hell up, omg ur unbelivable, just enjoy the game u idiot, no body said it was u, and it is ur fault ur fat, not ours
the only people getting offended over this are the fat chicks anyway… so it really doesn’t matter
when a fireman breaks down a door and is forced to carry a 300pound female down 2 flights of stairs isnt he really playing “Fat princess”? , you dont see him complaining..so technically this game has been around for years:capcom decided to make money off of it
Oh, COME OOON!!! This is stupid. The game looks and sounds awesome. I mean, is that…..um…not fat….um….”woman with too many curves” is the one that actually wrote the blog? Is kind of stupid that she, or any other woman, is offended by a….VIDEO GAME!!! If she doen’t like the idea that she’s fat….or “big bone”, if she’s on denial, then she can try a diet and some excercise. If she feels confortable with the way she is, then….why the hate????? I’m fat and I like the game. Well,….I’m not a princess, but I’m fat. Maybe she’s offended because is about a princess, right? Man, she should just ignore the game and live with her life. Lady, is just a game. Take it easy.
My god. The only people who are actually complaining are Women. And I say complaining and not offended, because, You really can not be offended by this. The only reason people are offended is because they are egotistical maniacs, who are full of themselves and are just trying to cause a stir. Or they are complete attention whores, who are usually hideous, who are payed no attention so they find attention by causing such mischief as this because they even prefer the bad attention over no attention at all.
“…but at the heart of the game is Capture the Princess. When you start a game, each team’s base will have their opponent’s princess inside.”
- Greg Miller (IGN)
“Overthrow the opponent’s army, plunder their castle, and save the princess in Fat Princess.”
- GameSpot (Game Summary)
I don’t think people realize that the whole point of the game is to get the “Fat” Princess to save the “Real” Princess inside. If you read more of IGN’s preview of the game or Wikipedia (I think) you can give the “Fat” Princess more food in order for the opponent’s team to send more people to carry their “Fat” Princess. I understand if “VampHuntD” (Author) got the whole point of the game right.
VampHuntD (Author) seems to think it’s a “Fat” hating game which it isn’t. It isn’t about hating fat people it’s more of a joke like Postal where people will get offended. Postal II (I think) had a cat as a silencer; this doesn’t mean the game is portraying that cats should be silencers it’s just for laughs. It’s like the Resident Evil 5 trailer whether or not it was racist it was more on “how” they portrayed the game.
I’m guessing VampHuntD (Author) isn’t a gamer so didn’t check to see what the game is really about. With the “Blogger Quote” that’s just one person’s opinion. One person doesn’t represent as a whole a lot of people have to understand that. With the “Uk gamer” and other comments think they know the whole picture in actual reality doesn’t.
In the end I it’s still in development and if they change the fact that the “Fat” Princess ate their Princess the whole argument will be out the window. Everyone should keep in mind what type of game is it then make conclusions. Just thinking about the Resident Evil 5 Trailer you can just understand why people got so angry.
“I know it from the moment I arrived; there is no reason here, no humanity. Everywhere I look I get vacant stares. All I see is death,” Chris Redfield (White main character). While this is being said it shows a whole bunch of black people (no signs of being controlled). I don’t think people realized it took place in a fictional African village and in Resident Evil 4 introduced what I like to call an upgraded zombie. Now with the new trailer you actually see the black people being taken over that was supposed to be the intention the whole time.
