Jailbreak Attempt May Cause Data Loss in Mac OS X 10.5

Jailbreak is the process of privilege escalation (a process of exploiting the design flow in a software, in order to gain access of protected resources) tool in Mac OS X operating system. This process includes breaking out of the chroot (a process of changing the obvious disk root directory) or bypassing the Digital Rights Management (DRM).

Jailbreak allows you to arbitrarily run the code on DRM encumbered devices like iPod touch and iPhone. But in some situations, the jailbreak process might damage the system and make in unbootable or the system freezes at startup. If your system can not boot up after completion of this process, you may not access your critical data and thus data loss situations occur. In such case, you need to opt for Mac Data Recovery solutions to get your precious data back.

When you attempt to accomplish the jailbreak process for the iPhone, serious situations might occur. if you have tried putting iPhone on DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode, with the latest version of Mac OS X(10.5.6) does not support, the issues like system freezing, missing drives, non-functional devices and more occurs. Sometimes the system may not start and in some cases, it starts but freeze due to incompatibility with the DFU mode.

Root of the issue

This issue might occur because the USB related kernel extensions, particularly the IOUSBFamily.kext, have got damaged during the jailbreak process. However, the problem may also occur due to damage or missing system files, system metadata structure and file system.

Resolution

Follow the given steps to resolve this problem by changing damaged kernel extensions and perform Mac Recovery:

You can continue manually by attaching the damaged hard drive via FireWire to another Mac computer with same operating system version. On the new system locate kernel extensions and drag them to same location on mounted hard drive.

If your system in completely unbootable, use boot DVD of Mac Data Recovery software to boot your system through it, scan the hard drive and recover your data.

These software use advanced scanning methods to retrieve lost data in most of the cases. With interactive and simple graphical user interface, these software allow you to perform Data Recovery Mac on your own. They have read only and non destructive conduct and thus always perform safe recovery.

Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery is an advanced tool to ensure safe and easy extraction of all the lost data. This software recovers data from all HFS, HFS+, HFSX, HFS Wrapper and FAT file system volumes. It is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5, 10.4 and 10.3.9.
