iPhone App Review – Angry Birds

Posted by: Robert Allen , January 19, 2011

I found Angry birds to be a entertaining little gem of an iPhone game that can’t be missed. The storyline takes place in a random far-off world with really weird looking birds. One day, little stupid-looking green pigs decided to steal all the bird eggs, and now these angry birds are out for vengeance! No matter if you are a casual iPhone user or a hardcore app gamer, Angry Birds will keep you laughing at its charm and keep you playing for hours.
The goal of the game is to shoot Angry Birds with your slingshot at the enemy pig houses and destroy the pigs inside. As each stage progresses, the pigs get harder to destroy with bigger houses, so that’s where strategy comes in with finding weak spots. You can different types of birds with upgrades like multi-bombs and seeking missiles to make gameplay more exciting. Some stages are harder than others, some even frustrating, but there’s enough challenge and variety to keep you entertained.
Simple is always better. Touch and drag your finger to aim the Angry Bird and release it to fire at the pig houses. Easy to learn how to play, hard to master your aiming trajectories. There were some minor difficulties with gravity judgements, but they were hardly noticeable and easy to adapt to.
The constant chirps and harsh screeching from each bird as you shoot them is hilarious, and the crashing sound crisp and clear.
Most of the charm in Angry Birds is shown in the graphics. Rich 2D artwork, bubbly character design and smooth animation look great on a brilliantly lit iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad screen. These are the visual characteristics I love to see in a mobile game app.
Angry Birds is definitely one of the best apps on the app store, with great playability, clear sound, great artwork, simple controls, and multiple stages. There’s not much to do after beating the game, but after completing each stage, the game gives you a rating out of 3 stars, so see if you can master each stage and earn 3 stars! This game belongs on any iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad for only .99.
