Posted by: Robert Allen , February 18, 2011

An iPhone uses a modified version of the Safari browser which is normally used in Mac or Windows-based systems. While the multiple menus are replaced with a fewer number of buttons, the version provides with excellent touch-based utilities. For any iPhone application developer, the Safari browser version is a sheer joy as it gives plug-in options for iPhone based utilities.

A boon of iPhone website development, it is easy to use the Safari browser on an iPhone. The browser is automatically launched whenever any URL is tapped. Alternatively, the browser can be launched using the Safari button on the Home screen.

The Safari browser comes with various buttons to facilitate various browsing modes. The Search button (magnifying glass) is used for searching, the Refresh button (Circular arrow) for refreshing a page, left and right arrows for back and forward navigation, the bookmark button, ‘+’ button to add a page in the bookmark and a Page button for new pages. In any outsource iPhone application development process, the browser settings can be integrated with any custom-made iPhone Apps.

By tapping on the URL address field, any web address can be entered. A second field here gives the option to search using Google. The search option can also be changed from Google to Yahoo! Search using iPhone settings for Safari.

The pages button set the safari browser in the Pages mode where multiple windows can be viewed by flipping from right or left. The New button given the option to create a new page and the Red ‘X’ button at top left is tapped to close the current window.

The browser provides with multi-touch option where a user can stretch two fingers on the screen to zoom and out a page. To browse through the website, links are tapped and finger movement is used to navigate around a page.

The Bookmark gives a list of the recently visited pages through a History listing. The bookmarks can be edited, renamed and moved to another bookmark folder. The bookmark can be deleted by tapping the red circle on left.
