Forget named iTV, refreshed Apple TV is still called Apple TV . But what the similarities end. The whole system dimension to the UI is different, even the whole concept is different. I think we can officially say, Apple takes Apple TV and streaming market as a whole seriously now. It is no longer just a hobby despite what Steve says .
The new model is much smaller than the old 1 / 4 actual size. It has a built-in 802.11n HDMI, Ethernet, optical audio and back. The power supply is even built. No more bricks, power, people!
As rumors stated , the new Apple TV is much smaller than the previous generation. This is partly because it does not use a spinning hard disk a local store. Flash now supports task, but its really just for caching as it is not so big. This device is cheap after all the flags are not intended for the organization of the media, but access to it from other locations.
The real news is the content of the additive. Apple believes that people do not want to manage the local store hence the lack of a hard disk so the content will be delivered from the cloud. Please note there is no content acquisition, only rent. First run movies will be available the same day that the DVDs hit 4.99. TV shows cost .99 now, rather than the old price of .99, but only Fox and ABC are on board at this time.
Then theres Netflix. Yes, its in the box as well and so is YouTube. Both are available through a beautiful custom interfaces. No more red Netflix screens.(Yay!)
But while the retail tag is only , it is not cheaper, when the exact form you need to rent the entire content. Apple did not give a connection to a PC or a cloud. Corrections, Apple TV now has airplay, but it only allows users to stream from the IPAD and visa-versa. It does not seem so pull the memory connected to the network.(I hope Im wrong) Update : As it turns out, does not have access to the network, but only a very limited range of supported video formats. Do not expect a lot of downloaded content to the game.
Apples new TV will be available in four weeks, the pre-order from today.
