Burned by Burnout: Trophy Patch Goes Live

Posted by: Esmeralda Lara , September 28, 2008
As most have heard by now, Criterion lied and your game saves died to pay the price.  It was previously believed that the now released Burnout Trophy Patch would be retroactive, leading to an onslaught of trophies upon first play of Paradise after the update.  As of 9/25, we know that Criterion “had difficulties” and the trophies that we were promised would not be coming unless game saves were deleted.  This in essence just wasted at least 10 hours of my gaming time, an issue I do not take lightly.  As such, it pains me to lose my data, cars, smashes, billboards and the like, so I can only imagine what anyone who already obtained a Burnout/Elite license must have been thinking when the truth broke.

However difficult it may be, I suppose we also cannot forget the added content Criterion has given us for free in paradise.  Instead of using the current model of pay for content downloads, Criterion was willing to give us added games features such as motorcycles for no additional cost.  At this point, this fact is the only thing denying my rage from becoming a mini hulk and smashing my copy of Burnout in protest (ok just kidding, I wouldn’t smash my own game, but I may have rented one and smashed it under someone else’s account in protest).

I offer this as a hint to game makers playing on adding trophies to your games.  MAKE THEM RETROACTIVE.  While we all know that many have “cheated” by downloading games saves and would boost their trophy scores by doing so, currently no system is setup to reward people with higher gamer scores anyway so what does it matter?  If you really need to lie about boosting an arbitrary score then maybe you should get a life, or a job, or both a puppy.  Or at least don’t tell the gaming world the trophies will be retro and then drop the surprise on us all as we are hotly anticipating unlocking them while continuing our original and hard earned saves.

On another note, my content trophy count is 29% for paradise and if anyone is down to play, leave your PSN in the comments.

How did you feel about losing your save?  Did you go through with it?  Leave your thoughts in the comments!
UPDATE:  Sorry folks, we had a small tech issue and all comments for this article got lost.  Revisit and drop your psns again if ya did before.
