The Oregon Trail iPhone App

Posted by: Robert Allen , January 23, 2011

The Oregon Trail was the favorite game of many who went to grade school in the early 1990s and now those people can enjoy the game on their iPhone. It’s one of the most popular apps out there right now, and that is for good reason. Its success comes as a result of a number of different factors. On one hand, it has the backing of a group of people who still fondly remember their time spent playing the game on old computers. On the other hand, it was created and is powered by GameLoft, the super developer of mobile games that has seen almost all of its apps have success.

The game has been out since late winter and it has really become a popular choice among iPhone users. Reviews have been very positive from all angels, as people feel that this game is just a better version of the old computer classic. Many times the developer will try to get too cute with an old classic and end up taking away what was good about the game in the first place. It doesn’t appear that the new Oregon Trail has this problem. From all accounts, it is actually better than the original, because the GameLoft has taken full advantage of the iPhone features that run the app.

There have been very few negative remarks about this game, as some people have complained about slow loading times. This comes as a result of the great looking graphics, which are most certainly a positive feature of this app. It fits well for a generation of people who are getting back to the retro games of their youth, and who doesn’t like fording rivers and hunting for their own buffalo on the way out to Oregon? At only .99, this app is relatively cheap and it’s not much of a price to pay for hours of entertainment on the phone.

All in all, things have been very positive for The Oregon Trail, and it has been well received by both iPhone users and reviewers alike. When all of those people agree that something is getting the job done, you can bet that it’s a pretty well designed game. Developer GameLoft should get a lot of credit for that, as they put just as much expertise into this game as some of their other successful ventures.
