Useful websites to discover new iphone apps

Posted by: Robert Allen , January 3, 2011

In this article I’m going to go through some very useful iphone app review sites to help you discover cool new apps for your iphone, it should help you wade through the hundreds of thousands  of iphone apps out there, most of which are just a waste of space.

148apps.com is a very compact app review site, at the moment It has 6 top 148 lists. It’s  not a big list, however there is purpose behind it, you see most review sites are bloated with unnecessary apps, with the 148 limit, the site really scrutinizes the apps before they get listed on the site, so you’re left with the highest, best quality apps around. Oh and in case you’re wondering 148 is not a arbitrary number, it’s actually based on the 148 icon limit on the device (which is the 9 screens of apps with the 4 static icons on the home screen)

Appclassics.com has a good attempt at app lists, the website is designed to appear nicely on the iphone safari, which is evident from the look of the page and dimensions. It’s listings are based on reviews on the app store, so I’m not clear on the usefulness of this page, why would you want to use this when you can just use the app store?

If you’re fed up with the endless app lists offered by these sites, then perhaps appspace.com may be more up your street.  The unique feature about this site is that you can register for an account and receive a more customized list based on your past reviews and ratings. The suggestions aren’t going to be as thorough as app genius, but it’s pretty decent.

Just remember though if running all these apps drains the juice out of your battery you might want to consider a battery extender [link here], to get more life out of each charge.

appolicious.com integrates social networking with app reviews to make things easier to find out what apps your friends are using through facebook , perfect for locating these really useful iphone to iphone chat software which allow you chat with friends. Appolicious.com has a pretty good alexa rating which suggests how usage, however with all these apps you might have, you might want to consider a iphone battery pack to expand your battery life.

Although appolivious.com was the first to offer social networking as one of its key features, it’s still very rudimentary, iphone.iusethis.com however is much more focused to the social networking side of things  It’s very similar to the way digg operates where people vote for something they like, and the most votes something has the more popular it is. In iusethis apps are ranked in the order of which is most voted. One drawback with this is that it obviously has a bias towards free apps and cheap apps.

Now this is great if you want to be exposed to the “classic” apps which have been around for a long time and have received exposure, however the voting system tends overshadow some of the more newer (but great) apps out there.

You may want to try freshapps.com which favours newer apps over the old, the site is clean, and reviews can be added easily.
