Advanced Security with “Find My iPhone” App

Posted by: Robert Allen , January 19, 2011

As the smartphone market is still experiencing the rush of various smart devices, app developers have to be as smart and inventive as never before. All platform producers see applications as one of the ways to attract a customer, due to this fact, smartpfone applications have become an inseparable part of many users’ work, business, communication, past time and even private life spheres. Users need an application for every step they make and Apple’s storage of more than 300 thousand is a convincing proof of it. Some of the apps are of a real use, some are fun, some are a waste of time and money, but one thing is certain – Apple will never leave a user in need supporting him or her with a couple of helpful megabytes of this or that data.

As Apple upgraded its famous iOS up to 4.2 level, a flow of new iPhone apps were delivered by caring <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.intellectsoft.net/iphone_applications_development.html” target=”_blank”> iPhone application development. One of the apps can be definitely referred to the group of useful ones, it is called “find my iPhone”. As none of users likes the idea of being abandoned by his or her object of pride and affection, the app quickly gained some popularity. To be honest the app has got a certain preference: it comes for free only to iPhone 4 users, the owners of 3G and 3GS iPhones have to subscribe to MobileMe service, which is just a year, to get this terribly useful application. “Find my iPhone” is based on a very specific feature, called A-GPS, which is set in late iPhone models and can locate the lost or stolen device (unfortunately the distance is not mentioned) and show its destination on a displayed map, it works with both PCs and iPhones connected to the service, and there is a plenty of security of course.

Once you located your precious loss you can send a hopeful message giving your coordinates and asking the new owner of your smartphone to give it back to you. The message is always followed by a sound (again its not mentioned if you can set a ringtone for this pitiful case) at the highest volume, which works even if the device is switched off. As well you are able to lock the lost device remotely with a special PIN-code, or if there’s no hope of getting back the gadget at least you can permanently delete all the data from it (remotely as well), which will surely make you sleep better.
