The Benefits of Having an iPhone Unlocked

Posted by: Robert Allen , February 18, 2011

Apple made leaps and bounds in the telecommunications world when it came out with the very first iPhone in January of 2007. It was a revolutionary marvel that surprised the world, revealing the full potential of the cellular phone technology. The first iPhone functioned as a camera, text messaging system, portable media player, and web browser. It also made use of an extremely user-friendly touch-screen interface that attracted many consumers. Still, the iPhone hasn’t reached legendary status in terms of sales and marketing, mainly due to the fact that the phones are tied up with only a handful of service providers.

The main problem with Apple’s inability to reach the success that it was projected to achieve is the fact that telecommunication giants like AT&T/Cingular are keeping iPhones locked with their services. This prevents a lot of potential users from being able to just buy iPhone units and use their current service provider’s sim. Imagine buying a top of the line Apple iPhone for top dollars and still needing to pay for the activation of a new service.

Fortunately, you can now buy an iPhone unlocked and ready for use with any phone service. Getting an iPhone unlocked makes it possible for consumers to be able to buy just the phone unit and use their current service plan. Imagine the amount of savings when all you have to do is upgrade to the latest iPhone whenever you want to. Compare that to the fact that you have to buy the unit and a new service plan every time you want to upgrade should iPhones remain locked.

It is also easier to customize everything with your iPhone unlocked. Since some providers do not have certain services that others offer, you are now open to switch from one provider to another if there are features and capabilities that you would like to use. This way, iPhone owners can really stretch the features available in their phones and put it to good use.

There are some products and software that you can use to unlock an iPhone yourself. However, this is a risky move and can potentially cause some problems with the phone. Doing so may also void your phone’s warranty, which means it would be much harder for you to handle the maintenance of your iPhone.

What you can do instead is buy an iPhone that’s already unlocked. You can actually buy an unlocked iPhone off the internet. A lot of sites offer the latest iPhone 4, both in 16 and 32 gigabyte GSM models. You can even purchase your choice of either the classic black iPhone or the new and sleek white model.

Buying an iPhone unlocked will also unlock a lot of possibilities for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re a businessman constantly on the road or a college student who’s eager to download the coolest and latest apps. You will always find ways to make the most out of your iPhone. The iPhone is definitely one of the top choices in the mobile phone industry today, and getting your iPhone unlocked opens up a lot of possibilities.
